What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is the branch of health care that focuses on proper alignment and mobility of the spine. Doctors of Chiropractic practice a drug-free, hands-on approach to health care that includes patient examination, diagnosis, and treatment. Chiropractors have extensive diagnostic skills and are also trained to recommend therapeutic and rehabilitative exercises, as well as to provide nutritional, dietary, and lifestyle counseling.
Chiropractors can help many joint problems by aligning a patient’s spine to restore optimal function. Your spine can become misaligned by a car accident, sleeping the wrong way, gardening, working at the computer, feeling stress, or even sneezing. Activities we do everyday affect the spine.
The spine is at the intersection of the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) and the peripheral nervous system (nerves). The brain and spinal cord are best able to communicate with the nerves through a healthy, easily moveable spine, and this communication can be interrupted by poor alignment of the spine. Chiropractors can gently adjust the spine to restore alignment so that the brain and spinal cord can communicate properly with the nerves.
